This week we celebrated Autumn and all of its beautiful colours. We read the book The Leaf Man and then collected leaves in the forest to make our own leaf creatures. We also used our treasures in the forest to make some gorgeous autumn crowns.

This week we went on an exciting walk around to school to practise using our listening ears. We tiptoed around the corridors listening for sounds. The children heard the bigger boys and girls in their lessons, the teachers talking, the fish tank buzzing, the rain on the roof, the phone ringing in the office, and music playing in one of the classrooms.

This week, we introduced the children to 'Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle'. 'Squiggle' is an Early Writing Program that we follow in nursery. It uses dance and large movements to help children develop the fine muscle control they need for mark-making and writing. The children learn a new gross motor movement to a piece of music using 'flipper flappers' (cloths) to make the movement with their arms. They dance using this movement and then use it to make marks, this could be in foam, on paper, in the sand, etc... This week the movement was 'up and down'. This movement is used to form lots of letters such as l, t, i.

This week we have welcomed lots of new children to the nursery for their first full sessions. It has been so great to see you all. We are beginning to learn where everything is, what our daily routines are, what we like to play with and how we can play with each other. It is such a lot to learn but all of the children are just doing so well. We are looking forward to another fun-filled week next week!

Welcome back to our lovely existing nursery children. It has been wonderful to have you back and see you after our summer holiday. You have all settled back in so easily; it has been great to see you playing with your friends. We know that you will all be the best role models for our new children that are starting with us next week.
