Friday 6th October

Sport is at the centre of our curriculum at Emmaville from a very young age. A group of children had a fantastic afternoon out at Gateshead International Stadium on Thursday with Mrs Johnson and Miss Freeman. They attended a Key Stage One Indoor Athletics Festival delivered by Gateshead Schools Sports Partnership. The event was made up of 8 dinosaur themed activities that required them to use a range if fundamental skills including jumping, balancing, agility and throwing and catching. They thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and couldn't wait to tell to their peers about all the activities they took part in. We're very proud of them all for their enthusiasm and behaviour at the event. We look forward to taking the whole of Year 2 to some cluster school vents at Thorp Academy in the spring and summer term.

In History this week, we learn about one of the most famous Englishmen from the Elizabethan times, Francis Drake. The children discovered how he was the first person to circumnavigate the globe and how he led the fleet to defeat th Spanish Armada. They were very impressed with his clever strategy and we created sailing ships to help us to retell the important facts and explain why he is known as a naval hero.

This week in computing we learned how to create and follow code like a robot. We learned that an algorithm is a list of step by step instructions that a computer follows in order to get a task done. We used robot language such as ‘control’, ‘looks’, ‘motion’ and ‘sound’ to follow and create our own algorithms. We worked with our partners to programme our robot friend calling out instructions for them to follow. It was lots of fun!
