Emmaville Primary School

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is of paramount importance and is everyone’s responsibility. We aim to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. We recognise that staff at our school play a particularly important role as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children to prevent concerns from escalating.

Our school will establish and maintain an ethos where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, are listened to and are safe. Children will be able to talk freely to any member of staff at our school if they are worried or concerned about something.

Operation Encompass

Commencing in April 2015, the project Operation Encompass is being run in partnership with both Gateshead Council and Northumbria Police. It aims to support children who are affected by Domestic Abuse. Following any domestic abuse incident being reported to Northumbria Police, specialist Police Officers will make contact with the school and communicate relevant and necessary information to nominated school staff. This will ensure that the school is made aware at the earliest possible opportunity and can subsequently provide support in a way that means the child feels safe.

Please use the link below to read the letter sent to parents, which gives more detail about the initiative. Alternatively, you can find out more from the website at www.northumbria.police.uk/advice or if you would like to speak to someone about the project you can contact Miss Armstrong at the school, or DC Gill Menzies on 0191 433 2450 or by email: OperationEncompass@Gateshead.gcsx.Gov.Uk
