Blaydon and District West League Winners

Well done to the Emmaville football team on retaining the title of Blaydon and District West League Champions. After two years without a name on the trophy due to Covid, Emmaville’s was added for the second time in a row. The first two weeks of games had left Emmaville top of the league with 17 points and in a strong position to retain the title, but it was by no means a forgone conclusion with Crookhill a close second on 12 points. First match was against our closest competitors and a win would put the team in a commanding position. With a very good performance, the players ran out 3-0 winners. The second game was against Ryton, but after a closely fought match, Emmaville ended up as the losing team 1-0. Third up was St Agnes. Again, a very close game, but this time Emmaville were the 1-0 victors. The final match was against St Mary and St Thomas. For the third game in a row, one goal decided the game – this time it was St Mary and St Thomas who were the deserved winners. Well done to all the teams and players from all five schools who participated.

After three weeks of competition, Emmaville sat at the top of the league with 23 points, and retained the title. Congratulations Team Emmaville. We now progress onto the Blaydon and District finals in a week’s time.
