ESFA National Finals – U11 Year 6/5 Mixed Team – 7 A-Side

The curtain closer to an immensely successful season for the Year 6/5 mixed football team was the ESFA National Finals at Coventry Building Society Arena on May 6th. The players, squad and supporters all travelled down to for a celebration of the season and to compete against the other seven best teams in England for the title of the best U11 schools mixed team at a fantastic stadium, on a professional pitch and in front of hundreds of supporters.

Emmaville were in group A against St Michaels, St Margaret Mary and Bradway, who had all either won or come runners up int their reginal finals. The first match was against St Michaels, who took an early lead but Emmaville charged back with some very good football and a goal from Lewis to make it 1-1. The team had opportunities to win the game but it ended with a positive 1-1 draw. The second game was against St Margaret Mary. Whilst the opposition put Emmaville under a lot of pressure, it was the Emmaville who took the lead through Myles. St Margaret Mary continued to put us under pressure with Jake performing some amazing saves but they did score an equaliser to make it 1-1. Emmaville continued to defend resolutely and ended the game with another draw. The final game was against Bradway and we knew a win would take us through to the semi-finals. The team put in a hard-working performance but unfortunately came away with a 1-0 loss.

Whilst the players were massively disappointed to not progress further on the day, we were all hugely proud of the team on the day and for everything they had achieved over the year. To be in the national finals and in the best eight U11 school teams in England is a fantastic achievement for all involved and to have the opportunity to play at a professional stadium is something to savour and remember for life.

A congratulation must be said to St Margaret Mary who went on be the winners of the National Finals.

Well done Emmaville Year 6/5 mixed team – you gave it your all and we are proud of you.
