We had so much fun on Tuesday this week on our Year 4 trip to Vindolanda. The children had a great time exploring the ruins and learning about how the Romans lived. We got the opportunity to speak to the archaeologists on site, who told us about the interesting things they had found during their excavations. We were also able to see for ourselves the artefacts that had been found on site as we wandered around the museum where we saw lots of shoes, weapons, coins and even a skeleton!

Upon returning to school, the children wrote fantastic recounts of the day in our English lessons.

We've had a very exciting week this week! On Wednesday, we enjoyed our termly music workshop. They got us all prepared for the World Cup by playing lots of iconic World Cup songs from the past! We had a great time singing, dancing and waving flags.

Yesterday, we also had a trip to Crawcrook Library which is always such a treat. The children had to work in groups to unveil a pile of books and decide which ones they would borrow, leave or share. They then had to present their ideas at the end. The librarian commented on how much the children have matured and grown up since their last visit!

What a brilliant first week back we've had in Africa class!

In History, we got to write our own poem, rap or song all about thanking the Romans for the things they left us after they had left Britain. They taught us how to read and write, introduced us to coins, as well as foods that are staples in our diets now. A lot of the roads we know today were originally built by the Romans too!

The children did a fantastic job at being creative with their writing and I was even more impressed when some members of our class were brave enough to perform what they had created! Well done to everyone!
