Friday 17th July
Well, the final week in Year 4 for us all. We ended with a marble jar treat of pyjamas and games. Once again, the class showed how well they can share, play, include everyone, and have fun.
It has been a really lovely year with the class. The children have been a pleasure to teach and it has been a privilege to see them learn and grow. We have all had a great year with lots of fun. The children are looking forward to their summer, and then being in Year 5. Mrs B and I wish them a lovely summer, and all the best for next year.
Friday 10th July
What a fantastic World Cup Enrichment Week Class Asia have had. It started with two workshops from Newcastle University that connected science and sport. The first was all about the brain and what each different part of the it does, and how this links with sports and football. The second workshop was about the skeleton, lungs and blood, and how these are all important when doing sport. The next day we had Tiny Tasters who taught us the importance of food for sport, and how the right combination of foods provide us with the important nutrients for exercise and football. Linked to the England Mexico match, the class made a nutritious and delicious burrito. The same day, Class Asia had a dance workshop to learn the dance of the World Cup 2026 official song, ‘Dai Dai’ by Shakira and Burna Boy. In addition to all of these, all week, we worked on a group project to create our own TV World Cup football broadcast. The children had a great experience of cross-curricular project work that combined all their different skills, and essentially, teamwork. They learnt the elements of a programme, the role of different people, they watched commentaries and created their own, designed their own interview questions and recorded a player’s interview. They explored match analysis, developed a script and recorded it. Their final act was using iMovie to edit and put it together. The children were brilliant; it was like watching the behind the science of Match of the Day documentary. Well done everyone.
Friday 3rd July
What a great trip Year Four had to Hexham Abbey to connect with and build on our learning in RW for Christianity, and the Tudors in history. The children took part in an interactive timeline about the history of the abbey, followed by four workshops; an introduction to a Christian Place of Worship; Art to tell Christian stories; Impact of Tudors on the Abbey; and Big Story interactive experiences about the abbey. They children very much enjoyed their experience and came home with a deeper understating of what they had been learning previously. In addition, the children were a delight and a credit to Emmaville with the way they behaved and interacted. Well done Year Four.
Friday 19th June
This week in Class Asia, one of the highlights was learning two different stitching techniques in DT. Over the term we will design our own Egyptian collar, learn stitching techniques, create the collar and adornments, and stitch them together. This was weeks two, and we now know and can do two different stitching techniques, running stitch, and cross stitch. We can wait to apply skills these to our final creations.
We also concluded our PE sessions of golf. The children have learnt about different golf clubs for long and short distance, and the techniques for using them. They have learnt how to use them for different distance, and accuracy. The children have learnt golf vocabulary and the rules of playing and scoring too. Today, they combined all these skills to design their own seven-hole golf course with a tee, water feature, bunker and hole at each. They then played in teams of four with a long and short distance club, scored each other, acted as a caddy and spent a lovely hour enjoying a round of golf. It has been lovely to see how much every child has learnt and developed over the five sessions. Well done class Asia.
A lovely week in Class Asia. It started with a visit to Prayer Space, where the children explored a range of thoughtful experiences. We had Sports Day which was brilliant. Every child gave their best competing, but also supported and encouraged each other. A big achievement was that the children of Year 4 finished their Multiplication Tables Check which they have been working hard on all year (and throughout their whole school experience). Their attitude has been excellent and it has been lovely to see the progress they have made in confidence with their tables. On Friday, Miss Armstrong popped into our class, and whilst she was there, she was so impressed with the quality of our presentation in our books that she chose four to celebrate in assembly. Finally, three children in our class got a special delivery from ‘The King’. They had been thinking of ways to raise money for charities and decided to send King Charles a letter asking for support. On Friday, they brough in a lovely letter in reply from the King thanking them for their efforts and encouraging them in their charitable pursuits. Amazing. What a super week.
Friday 5th June
A great first week back after half-term and it has been a very sporty week. The whole class started golf in PE and loved it. The learnt how to use a club for long distance shots. Whilst doing this, their aim was to get the ball over the water hazard and onto the green, but not past it. They loved it and made quick progress. Another sporting highlight was the Year 4 GSSP QuadKids event. A team took part against other schools to compete in four events; sprint, middle distance, turbo howler and the standing two footed jump. The Emmaville children were amazing in attitude, behaviour and skills, and one of our teams came away with a second-place finish. Well done Team Emmaville.
Friday 8th May
This week Class Asia visited Vindolanda (a Roman fort) to reinforce their learning in History about ‘The Romans in Britain’. The children explored the fort, spoke with archaeologists excavating more of the site, role played the lives of people living and working in the fort, and engaged with artefacts in the museum. The children had a great time and connected their classroom learning with the real thing.
Friday 1st May
We have had a lovely week in Class Asia. The sun has been out and we have had a great time with our learning. This week we took a trip to Crawcrook Library and reviewed book by deciding if we would borrow, share or leave. We also explore in maths how to convert from in an improper fraction to a mixed number. We went practical, and could see clearly what was happening.
Friday 24th April
A great first week back after the Easter holidays. We’ve started rugby in PE, photography in art, continued with Roman Britain in History, and computational thinking in Computing. But is Science, we started exploring digestion and the digestive system. The children learnt what digestion is, why it is important, and what organs are part of the system. They then identified the different nutrients that different foods provide the body through digestion.
