Emmaville Primary School

Scotland Year 1

Welcome to the Scotland Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.

Thursday 5th December

We had a lovely time on Wednesday afternoon during our craft session. The children loved having their grown-ups in school working with them - thank you so much for joining in! The children enjoyed helping you and getting some hugs! The children have loved putting their art skills to the test. We think the decorations look fantastic and we know that your trees at home and our tree for the church will look beautiful.

Happy Weekend!

Friday 29th November

This week we were so lucky and had a trip out to the library. The children were amazing during the trip and loved the story we were read. They then amazed me further during the Christmas Jumper Hunt where they collected the letters and worked out what the Christmas word was!

Well done everyone on another great week!

Happy Weekend!
Friday 22nd November

Well done for another great week Scotland Class! I have been so impressed by your Jack and the Beanstalk innovations in English! You have tried so hard :)
I have also really loved your algorithm work in computing - I hope you enjoy our photos of the ordering the outfit instructions! We thankfully remembered to put our wigs on before our hats!

Have a great weekend!
Friday 15th November

We have had a lovely day celebrating Children In Need. The children all looked great and it was lovely to share the day with them.

We particularly enjoyed our maths lesson today where we went on a shape hunt...we tiptoed down corridors, peeked through doorways and pointed out all the different shapes we could see. The only bears we found was Pudsey but we decided the most common shapes we found were rectangles and squares.

Well done Scotland class - have a lovely weekend!

Friday 8th November

We had a lovely first week back. We enjoyed our prayer space session and were able to use our RE from last half term to help us remember about the Christian story of creation.

We also did amazingly in maths using shapes to make pictures. The children could remember lots of shape vocabulary to help them with this.

Well done everyone :)

Friday 18th October

This week the children have been putting their listening skills to the test - we had to bake gingerbread! The children listened out for our imperative verbs in our English lesson and did exactly what they were instructed to do. The result were some very yummy biscuits!

Well done everyone!
Happy Weekend :)
Friday 11th October

This week in computing we have been learning to program robots. We worked in threes to lay a masking tape path for our robot thinking carefully about how we would program each step. The children had a great time getting creative with their routes and were very successful with their programming! Well done :)

Happy Friday!
Friday 4th October

This week I have been blown away by the team building work the children have done in P.E.
I set them the task of rescuing some bean bags I had stolen. The catch was that the floor was lava and they only had boats made out of hoops to get across the yard to rescue them!
I was so impressed by the children's team work and problem solving - they all managed to recuse all of the bean bags and thankfully nothing fell in the lava!

Well done everyone!

Happy Friday :)
Friday 20th September

During this week we have had lots of very interactive lessons. The children have been learning our English text, The Gingerbread Man and have come up with lots of actions to help them remember the story - I hope they enjoy retelling it at home!
Alongside our actions we have also made stick puppets to help us tell the story - this involved careful cutting and sticking.

In our DT lessons we have also been learning about making sliding pictures. We put our cutting skills to the test to create a cut in the middle of the page and then carefully cut round our cars. I'm sure you'll agree they all look amazing! We hope they've had fun with them at home!

The end of another fantastic week! Well done everyone.
During this week we have had a look at the different subjects we will be studying in Year 1 and I have been blown away by the enthusiasm of the children - they have joined in so well during our tasks and have been working hard at their desks to complete their jobs - well done everyone!
