Week Ending Friday 6th June 2025
This week we continued our poetry journey by learning the poem 'Five Little Peas'.
Of course we had to start the week by looking at and tasting some delicious pea pods.
We have learnt the poem with actions by repeating it across the week - see if your child can teach it to you!
We have also planted our own peas to take home and look after. The children learnt that the peas will need sun and water to help them grow.
We have also been busy practising some of the events that will feature in our Sports Day - this is coming up soon on the 18th June - we hope to see you there.
Lastly, we felt that it was a good idea to revisit the importance of thorough handwashing. We did this by using a glitter experiment to show the children that just running your hands under the tap for a few seconds did not do a good enough job of getting rid of all if the germs (the glitter). We talked about all the times when washing your hands was important. The children were amazing at using warm water, soap and putting their paper towels in the bin by themselves. Keep practising this at home!
Purple Poppies
What a busy week our little Purple Poppies have had!
We started off with our book of the week which introduced our half termly nursery rhyme - Hickory Dickory Dock.
The children then went on to make their own mice to run up and down the clock! Just look at the concentration on those faces as they wind the wool around their mice - fabulous!
We have also focused on listening to and following instructions by making cupcakes and cloud dough - both very exciting!
The children have also enjoyed lots of free play time outside and inside, with dressing up and jigsaws being firm favourites this week.
Week ending Friday 23rd May 2025
We have certainly made the most of the weather this week! The children love spending time in forest, exploring and using the space to play with their friends. From working on enhancing their fine motor skills by threading and then improving their gross motor skills in the forest area.
The Purple Poppies have had a week full of frogs. From singing 'Five Little Speckled Frogs' to rescuing frozen frogs, they have been super busy! They loved exploring the frog-themed tuff tray and sat so well during carpet time to count the Five Little Frogs.
Week Ending Friday 16th May 2025
Nursery had an amazing day at Hall Hill Farm this week and we were very lucky with the lovely sunny weather.
They held chicks, guinea pigs and rabbits and saw pigs, highland cows and alpacas.
They fed goats, bottle fed lambs and we even had a go at milking a cow (not a real one though!)
One of our favourite parts of the day was the tractor ride. It was very bumpy!
All the children were absolute superstars and the farm staff commented on how well they listened.
Week ending 9th May 2025
We have been learning all about 'people who help us' and have been so lucky to have Police Officers from Northumbria Police and a crew from Tyne and Wear Fire Service join us in nursery. The children have been so curious and this has supported their play - we have had lots of fire fighters, police officers and doctors looking after each other!
On VE day, we talked about how the Armed Forces keep us safe. To celebrate 80 years since Victory in Europe, the children all decorated a biscuit with a special VE day topper, they were delicious!
Our new friends in Purple Poppies have been settling so well and have been enjoying spending time with their new friends in nursery.
Week Ending Friday 2nd May 2025
What amazing and fitting weather we had this week to mark the start of the summer term!
We always spend lots of time in the outdoors in Early Years, but this week we really made the most of it!
We had lots of 'settling back in' activities to get the children used to the rules and routines of nursery again after the holidays. Our text of the week was 'Can I play?' which helped the children think about how to be a good friend. The children went on to make their own 'perfect pals' as they talked about what a perfect friend would be like.

Our two year olds enjoyed learning all about farm animals using the text 'Oh Dear!' by Rod Campbell. They even made their own milkshakes at the end of the week as they learned all about where milk comes from.
