Easter Egg Competition

The children loved designing and decorating their eggs for Easter! They came up with some very innovative designs and ideas and I loved looking at them all! They were all so brilliant that it was extremely hard to choose a winner.

Well done to everyone, fantastic effort!

Prayer Space

On Wednesday we attended a prayer space all about The Easter Story. The children really enjoyed listening to the story and taking part in the activities. They also asked really insightful questions about the story and Jesus.

Have a lovely weekend! :) Mrs Graham.

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology this half-term, we have been working with Micro:bits. The aim of this topic is for the children to build on their learning from the term and to then use this to make a timer on the Micro:bit.

Micro:bits are 'mini computer processors' that can be used for a range of different activities such as a thermometer, a compass, a timer and an LED light.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and have learnt lots!
Friday 8th March

We have had a lovely week this week and a particular highlight was our World Book Day celebrations! All the children looked fantastic and we had a great time sharing the books which had inspired our outfits. During our afternoon session we welcomed some children from Year 2 to join us and ran a 'Book Cafe'. We enjoyed sharing different genres and types of books with them and helping them to 'taste' some new stories, poems and facts. Thank you Year 2 for being so enthusiastic and well done to Year 4 for your fantastic support.

Happy Weekend!
Welcome back!

We have had a lovely first week back after the half-term. It was lovely hearing about all of the fun things that everybody got up to!

We have introduced a range of new topics this week, such as 'Coordinates' in Maths, a new suspense story in English called 'The Red Eye' and 'Living things and their Habitats' in Science. As always, the children have responded with great enthusiasm!

I am looking forward to another great half-term :)

Children's Mental Health Week

It was Children's Mental Health Week this week and to acknowledge this, Year 4 received a visit from The Children and Young People's Team at Gateshead Libraries. Our PSHE lesson was also focused on celebrating this event and we spoke about how it 'is ok not to be ok'.

The team at Gateshead Libraries held a workshop, the theme being 'My Voice Matters'. They told an interactive story and the children then took part in an activity. They had to write down where their happy place is, something nice they would say to someone to make them happy and a time that they have been brave and they then linked them together in a paper chain.

The children enjoyed this and I really hope they took a lot from it and that they do know that their voice does matter and that it is ok to not be ok :)

Drip Paintings- Jackson Pollock

This week in Art, the children imitated the artist Jackson Pollock and created their very own drip paintings. They used paint and water to create a drip consistency and then experimented with different techniques to create ‘drips’ on their card. The children loved this (and getting messy!) and they created some truly wonderful pieces of art!

Well done Asia :) Mrs Graham.

World Religion Day

As part of our World Religion Day celebrations, Emmaville were very lucky to receive a visit from Brother Khadim from Newcastle Central Mosque.
Brother Khadim told us about his life as a Muslim and also about Islam. The children loved learning lots of interesting facts and asked some really insightful questions!
In our RE lesson, Asia also learnt about other religions such as Christianity, Buddhism and Judaism to support our learning on World Religion celebrations. Mrs Graham :)

Music Workshop

We were very lucky this week to have a visit from a fantastic band who delivered a workshop to the school. We have had a visit from this band before and as usual, they were absolutely brilliant and both the teachers and children loved it!
The theme of the workshop was 'Music from around the World'. We had music and dancing from Ireland, Greece, Mexico and others and we also learnt facts about each country.
A few children from Asia were even able to go up and either dance, play an instrument or find a country on a giant globe!
It really was lots of fun and we had a great time :)

Art- Tints and Shades

It has been lovely welcoming everyone back this week and hearing what everyone got up to over the Christmas holidays! :)

In Art this week, we have been exploring Tints and Shades and how to make different different ones by adding white or black paint (see the photos). Next week, we are moving onto how to make a painting look three-dimensional by using different tints and shades. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone produces!

Have a lovely weekend! :) Mrs Graham.
