Sports Day 2025

What an amazing day we had for Sports Day this year! The sun was shining, the music was playing, and the field was full of excitement from the very start.
All the children in Wales took part in 4 competitive activities earning points for their sports houses and 4 non-competitive events. There was sprinting, where the races were super close and full of cheering; the howler throw, which saw some seriously impressive distances; and the always-popular obstacle course, where we crawled, jumped and sprinted our way to the finish!
I’m so proud of all of Wales as they gave it their best, and it was fantastic to see such great teamwork and encouragement from everyone. The smiles, high fives, and laughter said it all!
A big thank you to the parents and carers who came along to support their children—it really made the day special. The children were so excited, scanning the field to find those familiar faces and loves having you there to cheer them on.
Well done to all of Wales who have all won star of the week this week for taking part with such enthusiasm, effort and big smiles.

Visit to Newcastle Central Mosque

What a busy but exciting first week back Year 2 have had with two educational visits in one week! On Monday, we visited the newly opened site at Newcastle Central Mosque. We met Brother Khadim there and he showed us into the prayer hall. The children learnt all about the importance of prayer for Muslims and further their knowledge of Islamic beliefs. We were amazed to know that the largest mosque in the world at Mecca can hold up to 10 million people at once. The children found out lots about the five pillars of Islam, particularly Hajj (the journey) and the stages of Hajj. We always look forward to this visit as part of our RE curriculum and the children really enjoyed their morning there.

Visit to The Angel of the North and the Baltic

On Wednesday, we ventured into Newcastle as part of our fieldwork studies in geography to see the many famous human and physical features of Newcastle. Over the last half-term, we have been learning about the city of Newcastle and have been identifying the key landmarks and looking at the use of our surrounding area. We felt like tourists for the day, starting our travels with a pit-stop to visit the Angel of the North which was designed and built by the famous sculptor Anthony Gormley. After a heavy downpour, we continued on and arrived at The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. We had a fantastic time exploring the many floors, taking part in a range of activities and making the most of the viewing box up on level 5 where the children worked as a class to create a giant map of Newcastle with all the key landmarks on. The children were incredibly excited by the views and it was such a fantastic space to spend the time. We were even lucky enough to see the Millennium Bridge lifting up to let a fleet of boats pass by.  Year 2 represented Emmaville very well and it was a joy to see the excitement on their faces the whole day.

Thursday 22nd May

This half-term has flown by with the children working their socks off everyday and full-packed calendar of exciting events. In DT we have been learning how to sew and across the last few weeks, the children have all learnt how to do a running stitch. We have all used our growth mindset just like 'Mojo' does as sometimes it is a little tricky and we have to be resilient. We've loved learning this new skill and some of us have even been asking for sewing kits at home. All of Wales class staff are very proud of the childrens' focus and determination.

Enjoy your half-term holidays Wales class!

Gardening with Mrs Richter

As a school we have our very own flower beds and plants in the Crawcrook Community Gardens which the children maintain and do a brilliant job of looking after. This week on Monday, Mrs Richter and Mrs Ward helped the children to plant a range of seeds including peas, sweetcorn, radish, pumpkin and carrots. We've planted the pumpkins seeds to hopefully be able to carve our own home-grown pumpkins for Halloween. Mrs Richter also explained how some flowers and plants help attract bees. We planted some marigolds to attract the bees to pollinate our vegetables.
The children had the best afternoon in the sunshine helping to plant seeds to grow over the year. We can't wait to visit them and watch them grow.
Our favourite day of the school year- The Rainbow RUN!
Friday 9th May

80th Anniversary of VE DAY

As always, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE day in style. The children came to school proud to be British wearing red, blue and white. The school looks like a union jack flag everywhere you looked. The children were very excited to learn about VE day and understand why it is celebrated. Wales class loved taking part in some VE activities and even decorated biscuits.

We had a lot of fun celebrating with our friends!
