Friday 11th July
Well, we're nearly there! Our last week in South America looms very close, but we still have a final show to perform, not just to our families on Monday, but also to the rest of the school on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rehearsals have been going very well, particularly the songs, and our practice today went better than ever.
This week, we have had a focus on the environment and had various workshops from creating our own composter, to bringing in our bikes to being looked at by a bike doctor from the charity 'Sustrans'. A fabulous week all round, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Friday 27th June
Another lovely week here in South America and so nice to all be back together again. We have had a busy week with some transition activities ahead of most of us having some days at our new school next week. Some of these were part of our final prayer space here at Emmaville which was so calming and relaxing.
We also held a mini sports day on Monday where groups of 8-10 friends moved round different events set out on the field. We had both classes together for this event, and it was brilliant to see the children having friendly competition and time with their friends.
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Friday 20th June
While the majority of us have been living the high-life down in London, some of us have been having a lovely week back here up north. The beautiful weather has been a bonus, particularly when we took a trip to Saltwell Park in Gateshead on Thursday. We spent time messing around on the park rides, playing a little football and rounders, feeding the ducks and picnicking on the grass in front of Saltwell Towers. An ice cream in the sunshine topped the day off - what a fantastic few hours we had!
Unlucky for some, but lucky for us here in South America. We have had a lovely week and especially loved our final sports day here at Emmaville. I am so proud of all of the children and how they participated and cheered each other on, their teamwork was amazing! All of us tried our best and did so well, even in such hot conditions. I think we all thoroughly enjoyed the day, and in the afternoon we were wiped out! We have also been in full rehearsal mode for our 'end of the show' show. and we can't wait for you to see our final product!
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Friday 6th June
This week has been another wonderful one here in South America. The children have been looking at some real life money skills as part of maths. We used these to create presentations about both trying to create profits with a smoothie business; sticking to a budget to create a party for the end of year 6 and how to save money as well as helping the environment. The children had to get up and present their ideas to the class on two occasions and I have to say, they were all fantastic! Everyone got up to speak with their group and I was so proud of the confidence in all of them.
Today, we also took some of the girls to a cricket tournament at Whickham Cricket Club. The girls had a lovely attitude and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. The improvement seen from the start of the day to the end was fabulous! The two year 6 classes both had a team of girls and South America's team won the entire tournament overall, undefeated all day. The girls worked so well together and their cricket skills were stand out. What a brilliant day had by all.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Friday 22nd May
I can't believe this is the end of another half term... only one more to go! The children have been wonderful again this week. We had an amazing day at Namco in the Metro Centre on Tuesday for their after SAT's treat. Their behaviour was wonderful all day and they all had so much fun. It was lovely to see them all enjoying themselves with their friends and they totally deserved it after all of their hard work.
I hope you all have a fabulous half term!
Friday 16th May
I can't believe that's it... the SAT's are finally over! I am SO proud of each and every one of the children, they have all worked incredibly hard and taken this whole week in their stride. We have also had a lovely day today for our rainbow fun run. We were outside supporting the younger years for the morning and we were so motivational and helpful, Mr Elliott gave us 5 marbles as a thank you. This afternoon was our turn for the run. It was warm but we all did so well and had so much fun while we were at it.
Thank you all so much for the support this week, and leading up to it. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend...I know I will!
Friday 9th May
Along with many others around the world, we celebrated VE Day this week by dressing in red, white and blue on Thursday. We enjoyed a range of activities, including using diary entries and video interviews of people who were there to find out what it was like for young people on VE Day, and then wrote diary entries or letters as if we were there too; we decorated and ate some VE Day biscuits; we did some themed maths problems; and we created some 'make-do-and-mend' good luck charms for next week. We also remembered the great sacrifice of those who suffered and died during the Second World War when we observed the two minutes' silence at midday, whilst watching the live coverage from Westminster Abbey on the BBC. Life now is certainly different to was it was 80 years ago...
Friday 2nd May
What a lovely first week back we have had here in South America! On Thursday morning, the mayor of Gateshead came to Emmaville to visit us and we learnt all about their outfit and their role in our community. We have been busy doing some revision as well ahead of the upcoming SAT's. We have also started our new PE unit which for us this half term in cricket. We have an upcoming cricket tournament in a few weeks and it's really encouraging seeing how talented some of our children are. I can't wait to see their progress over the coming lessons.
I hope you all have a lovely long weekend!
