Emmaville Primary School

Scotland Year 1

Welcome to the Scotland Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Friday 11th April

What a lovely half term! The children have been amazing - we really enjoyed our P.E where we were working on improving our target skills. We practiced under arm and over arm throwing with a focus on choosing the force behind our throw carefully to be able to win points! They were amazing.

We have also enjoyed getting creative with our Easter Egg designs - I think you will agree that they look great!

Well done everyone! Happy Easter :)
Friday 28th March

We have had a great week this week and put our maths skills to the test! We have played lots of addition and subtraction games to help us become more confident and speedier with our adding and taking away.
The children have been really good at using their knowledge of partitioning, doubling, number bonds and consecutive number facts.

Well done everyone!
Happy Friday
Friday 7th March

We've had two especially lovely things on this week, our play session and assembly with Sam Cree where we learnt more about the Easter story and the excitement around pancakes! And our wonderful World Book Day Celebrations.

The children have been fantastic and they looked great in their outfits and comfy in their PJs :)
They produced some fantastic work based on our book, A Child of Books. The story maps they created, where we borrowed ideas from all the different stories we loved, were so good and they were amazing at creating their story sticks based on their maps. I hope you've enjoyed them at home!

Well done everyone!
Happy weekend :)
Friday 14th February

This week we had the very special treat of Adam Bushnell and his tortoise Jet coming in to work with us. We really loved our workshop - we came up with some great character ideas in the form of a wicked witch who went to terrorise Antarctica. She stole the beaks from penguins, the tails from whales and even made it so hot that the ice all melted. We are looking forward to doing some writing based on this next week...Watch this space!

Happy Weekend!

Friday 7th February

This week we really enjoyed finding out about Antarctica in our Geography lesson. We found out what it was like there and enjoyed watching a video about the Southern Lights. We learnt lots of facts then showed that we could find the continent of Antarctica on a map and that we could recall lots of facts. We know that penguins live in Antarctica but Polar Bears don't. We learnt that during the Winter the sun doesn't come up and in the Summer the sun doesn't set! Great work everyone!

Happy Weekend!
:)
Friday 31st January

This week we wanted to share the developments we have made in our art skills. We built on our tube towers from last week and created 3D art using paper. We folded, curled and twisted our paper to make curls, steps, and spirals which literally jump off the page! We have loved doing this activity are very proud of the work that we produced! We hope you like it as well :)
Friday 24th January

We have enjoyed our art lesson this week. In art we we made towers out of paper. We used tubes and glue sticks to hep us roll the paper into a cylinder shape then we glued the edges together and stood our towers up. We made our towers out of different colour paper, we made them different heights and with different designs made by cutting out bits of the tower. We think they look great!

Have a lovely weekend :)
Friday 17th January

This week we have really enjoyed our music. We had a fantastic music workshop on Wednesday where we listened to pop music from the 1950s to now. We enjoyed being Elvis, Abba, Oasis and George Ezra.

We also enjoyed the March genre in our music lesson in class. The children were all able to identify different instruments we have looked at and even talked about whether they were high or low pitch!

Well done everyone - happy weekend!
Friday 10th January

Welcome back! We have a lovely week settling back into class and sharing what we have been up to over Christmas.
In a very exciting turn of events on Monday morning, we discovered some dragon footprints and eggs in our sandpit! The children have since created the best descriptive word bank for dragons I have ever seen! I hope they share some of their ideas with you!

We also had a visit from one of our parents who shared their experience of working as a paramedic. The children were able to look inside and ambulance and find out what was there. They looked great in the paramedic hard hats and got to find out how people could be moved in and out of the ambulance.

Happy Weekend!
