Emmaville Primary School

Gateshead Reception

Welcome to the Gateshead Reception Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Week commencing 11th May
In our English lessons this week, the children have continued with their instructions, but after recalling our steps for making a jam sandwich, Gateshead class did a fabulous job making their own jam sandwiches, they went down very well. Maybe the children could make you a sandwich at home soon!

In our maths lessons, the children have been identifying odd and even numbers. This has been very tricky, but we are so proud of the perseverance Gateshead class have shown.

Week commencing 4th May
Bossy verbs... We know all about them! In English, our focus has been instructions. Gateshead have been focusing on how to give instructions to make a jam sandwich. They worked together to create a set of step-by-step instructions, and they were able to recall each step easily.

Following on from last week, the children have been practicing their halving and sharing. By using concrete materials, the children have been able to successful share objects; "one for you, one for you..."

For our topic on Friday, the children were introduced to mapping and we explored local landmarks. We focused on the Angel of the North and the children created their own Angels with a beautiful wash over the top before enjoying a soggy afternoon in the forest - thank goodness we had the parachute to hide under!!
Week commencing 27th April
In our English lessons this week, the children have created their own letter to Evil Pea. She has been very cheeky, so the children have reminded her how to be kind!

We have introduced the concept of 'doubles' to the children, and they have been excellent at recognising doubles. Some of the children have started to count in 2's too, we are so impressed.

We were very lucky to welcome Gateshead's Music Workshop back into school. This time, the focus was on the upcoming world cup. The children loved the experience, and lots of fun was had!

For our topic, we blasted off to space and created our own Solar System to celebrate World Space Day.
Week commencing 20th April
Welcome back Gateshead. We cannot believe we have started our Summer term already.

This week, we have focused on writing a letter to Evil Pea. She has been a bit of a cheeky pea and has been causing mayhem in our class. The children have been amazing at using their prepositions to describe where Evil Pea has been.

In our maths lessons this week, the children have been becoming more familiar with numbers up to 20. They have blown our socks off!

We ended our week in forest and enjoyed the beautiful weather together.
