Welcome to the Gateshead Reception Class Page. Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.

This week we are celebrating National Poetry Week!
Week commencing 21st September
Another lovely week, Gateshead!

This week in phonics, we have met the sounds c, k, u, b and f. I wonder if the children can find anything around the house this weekend starting with these sounds? We have also been practicing our oral blending which the children are definitely starting to tune into!

In our English session, we have learnt the poem, 'A Basket of Apples' and we have been inspired by this to explore Harvest. If the children look out of the window tonight, they might catch a glance of the Harvest Moon!

This week in Maths, the children have had the tricky job of identify 'more than' and 'less than'.

The children have worked so hard, we have been so impressed with their perseverance throughout the week.
Week commencing 14th September
What a busy week we have had…

The children have started their letter formation in phonics. We have now learnt 10 sounds - m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o.

In maths we have been sorting different objects into groups of ‘the same’. The children have been amazing at explaining why things have been grouped in certain ways.

During our English, we have explored the NSPCC PANTS rule and why it is important to use our voices. We have been inspired by Peter H. Reynolds again, but this time we focused on the book, 'Say Something’.

The children have also learnt the importance of handwashing, we even learnt a new song!
Week commencing 7th September
What a brilliant first full week we have had! The children have been such kind friends and it has been lovely seeing new friendships emerge. The children have adapted to Reception life so well, we are all very proud!
