Week beginning 1st December 2025
England have had a jam packed week full of Christmas fun! On Tuesday, we learned about the Christmas story in an Open the Book assembly. On Thursday, we visited the library and invited our parents into school for a Christmas Craft Workshop and on Friday we celebrated with a marble treat movie afternoon! The class have worked so hard since starting Year 1 in September and it has been so lovely to see them celebrate with so many special opportunities this week. Well done England!
Week Beginning 24th November 2025
England have had another amazing week! Some highlights of the week include learning more about the Great Fire of London, writing about giants in English and filling our class marble jar earning a treat afternoon next week!
On Friday, we explored a new question in our RW lesson - 'What do some Muslim people believe about God?'. We learned that in Islam some Muslim people describe Allah using 99 names, each representing a different characteristic. We also learned that some people who follow the Muslim worldview use art to express their ideas about God. They create beautiful patterns and designs, not pictures of God, because they believe God is unique and special and cannot be described by appearance. After exploring images of tiles in Islamic buildings, the class worked together to create their own unique tiles.
Week Beginning 17th November
England have had another great week of learning!
In our Maths this week we have explored 2D and 3D shapes, mastering tricky vocabulary including 'vertices' and 'triangular prism'.
In English, we wrote our innovated stories about Jack and the Beanstalk, writing as a whole class for the first time - Miss Pearson, Miss Cormack and Mrs Holt were really impressed with the children's independence in this task as writing sentences can be tricky work!
In Geography, we enjoyed learning about some key landmarks in a nearby city (York), and in Art we learned how to make secondary colours by colour mixing.
Great work England!
Week beginning 10th November 2025
This week England have learned about different religions as part of our 'Interfaith Week'. The children read the story 'Little Glow' which told us about how lights are important in lots of religions, and decorated our own Diwali candle.
On Thursday, Sam Cree from our local church visited us for a 'Godly Play' session. The children listened carefully to the story of Moses and the 'ten best rules to live a good life' (The Ten Commandments). They then had time to complete activities based on the story including making a story wheel.
Week Beginning 3rd November
This week we have started lots of new topics of learning, including 'Jack and the Beanstalk' in English and 'Painting' in Art.
In our Science, our new topic is all about Light. The children learned that light can be sorted into two categories - natural light and artificial light. They were amazing at identifying the difference using the following questions to help them:
Does it have a light switch?
Did a person make it?
Is it found in nature?
Types of light they successfully sorted included traffic lights, lightning, stars and even fireflies.
Well done England!

This week in History England Class have been learning about the difference between the past and the present. The class were challenged to work as history detectives, sorting pictures of transport into the two categories. The children enjoyed looking for clues to help them, like the pictures being in black and white for the past or spotting vehicles they recognised seeing in real life like a London bus. Great work England!
