Emmaville Primary School

England Year 1

Welcome to the England Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Week beginning 13th October 2025

England Class have had another amazing week!

In English, we have been learning about instruction writing; using imperative verbs and bullet-point lists.
We walked around our classroom to write our very own 'shopping' list - the children were very good at remembering to use their bullet points.

On Friday, we applied our knowledge of imperative verbs to bake our Gingerbread men. We are very excited to write our instructions on how to bake the Gingerbread men next week!
Week beginning 6th October 2025

This week in History England Class have been learning about the difference between the past and the present. The class were challenged to work as history detectives, sorting pictures of transport into the two categories. The children enjoyed looking for clues to help them, like the pictures being in black and white for the past or spotting vehicles they recognised seeing in real life like a London bus. Great work England!

Week Beginning 22nd September 2025

This week in England, we have enjoyed our first Guided Reading lesson reading The Good Little Wolf! The children read the story in pairs, joining in with actions and working on using our storytellers voice when a word is written in all capitals.

The class then made Wanted posters to tell the other children in school to look out for the Big Bad Wolf!
Week beginning 15th September 2025

This week England have been really enjoying learning the story of the Gingerbread Man in their English lessons! The class have completed a variety of tasks including designing their own gingerbread men, creating a story map and retelling the story as a team using stick puppets.

Well done England!
Week beginning 1st September

Hi everyone, and welcome to England Class!

The children of England class have had an amazing first week in Year 1 - they have really impressed the teachers with their good listening, kind friendship to each other and positive attitudes to learning. On Friday, the class celebrated England Day where we learned more about the country our class is named after. We learned about the national sports, foods and animals, created artwork including crowns and even had a taste test of some classic English foods!

Well done for a great week England :)
