We had so much fun taking part in our annual egg decorating competition! There were so many amazing designs and the children went to such a great amount of effort that it was hard to choose a top 3! All of the children did a fantastic job and it was great to see so many of them complimenting each other on their chosen designs.

Enrichment Week - Stemmaville
What an amazing week we have had for Enrichment week! The theme has been STEM where we have focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. On Monday, we attempted to use a chemical reaction to make our own homemade volcano which links with our Geography topic on natural disasters. We were then set the challenge of building a free-standing tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows. It was very tricky, but a lot of fun!
We have also had some amazing visitors this week including a plantarium, where we were able to be completely absorbed in our solar system, as well as visitors from Newcastle University who told us the story of Earth and showed us how to create dinosaur's toothpaste!

We had a lovely start to our day on Wednesday morning at Prayer Space. We had the opportunity to create little playdoh models of what we were thankful for and created a calm space for us to off load our worries and concerns. The children were incredibly respectful and calm and thoroughly enjoyed taking the time to think about things they were thankful for and spend some time thinking about other places in the world to pray for.

Yesterday in DT we had so much fun using the computers to programme microbits. We are creating a mindfulness timer for our teacher, so the product needs to be able to count down as well as have a reset button. The children did so well working together to write the programming and were very delicate when downloading the programme onto their microbit. It was very fiddly! We had a great degree of success as everyone managed to get their portable timer working!

World Book Day
We had such fun celebrating World Book Day yesterday! It was lovely so see the children looking so cozy in their pyjamas - some even wowed us with some costumes! To celebrate World Book Day this year, we read A Child of Books as a class and thought about the importance of imagination. We were inspired by the text to think about what would be in our own 'book of books'. The children created fantastic pieces of artwork filled with their favourite characters, lands, props and fantastical creatures.
In the afternoon, we had the pleasure of reading to the little ones in Reception which Africa class thoroughly enjoyed. We separated into pairs and were able to share stories together.

This week has been a busy week preparing and practicing for our Year Four assembly. The children have been brilliant learning their lines, practicing their performance, taking on feedback and improving, learning their stage movements, and building confidence. The final result was a wonderful assembly where both classes entertained and had fun. We are very proud of Class Asia and Africa. Well done children, and thank you families for your support.

Children's Mental Health Week
In honor of Children's Mental Health Week we have been talking a lot about the different emotions we feel and how we show them. It has been so interesting to hear what makes each child sad, frustrated, angry, happy, excited and silly! We discussed how we deal with emotions like sadness and loneliness and what we can do to help ourselves and recognize what we need to help us.
One of the things we have done this week is listen to music to help our mental health! We have had so much fun listening to Meghan Trainor's 'Better When I'm Dancing' each morning before we start our lessons. It really helps set us up for the day, putting us in a positive mindset and allowing us to shake off the sleepy!
We spent a little bit of time today also thinking about who is in our superhero team. The people who are always there to support us, love us, and help us deal with any emotions we may feel.

This week in Africa class, we have had the opportunity to listen to some parents talk about their jobs. We really enjoyed learning what it was like to be a neo-natal nurse yesterday and see all the tiny nappies and hats that would be used to keep premature babies warm.
We also celebrated National Handwriting Day this week and combined that with our poetry Thursdays. Poetry Thursday links really well with our Guided Reading sessions as we are learning about lots of different poetry techniques and styles from Rachel Rooney’s The Language of Cat. We had a lot of fun performing some of her poems this week to the class.

We really enjoyed our music workshop this week, where we got to listen and sing along to music through the ages. We started with Elvis Presley in the 1950s and worked all the way up to George Ezra in the 2010s! The children had a great time singing and dancing along to lots of popular classics!
This afternoon in Computing, we experimented on Scratch as part of our programming module. Last week we focused on creating an algorithm and making our sprite move around the screen by following a set of instructions. This week, we combined that with creating our own sprite and we were able to play around with different backgrounds, so our game design became more advanced! We worked so well together, especially when we encountered technical difficulties!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break.
The first week back has absolutely flown over! In PE, we started our Gymnastics topic and we practiced some partner balances. We practiced tensing our muscles in order to help us balance and for our body to become stronger - we call this muscle tension. It was fantastic seeing the children communicate with each other so clearly, and focusing on keeping each other safe.
In Art this week we looked at tints and shades. Using paint, we created a gradient where we took a colour and, by adding either black or white to it, were able to change the tint and shade. We learnt that when you make a colour darker, it is known as a shade. When you make a colour lighter it is known as a tint. The children did some fantastic pieces of work.
