Emmaville Primary School

Scotland Year 1

Welcome to the Scotland Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Week ending 14th November 2025

This week in science, we have learned three words: transparent, translucent and opaque. We took part in an investigation where we used a torch to see whether or not light can go through different materials. I was blown away by how interested the children were during the investigation and how they demonstrated their knowledge of the key vocabulary within the lesson.
Week ending 7th November 2025

What a great start to the half-term. In English, we have started our new Talk4Writing story - Jack and The Beanstalk. The children have wrote some fantastic descriptive sentences and have designed our own beanstalks out of junk materials!

In maths, we have been looking at teromino and pentomino shapes. We have used our understanding to create our own shapes using 3D cubes!

Well done, Scotland Class!
Week ending 24th October 2025

This week, we have completed our first digital art piece in computing. The children were asked to design a scene from The Three Little Pigs, using the app, 'Sketchpad'.

Here is how some of them turned out!

Have a fabulous half-term Scotland class. What a brilliant start to the school year.
Week ending 17th October 2025

We have had a fantastic week in Scotland class.

In English, we have been learning about instruction writing; using imperative verbs and bullet-point lists.
We walked around our classroom to write our very own 'shopping' list - the children were very good at remembering to use their bullet points.

On Friday, we applied our knowledge of imperative verbs to bake our Gingerbread men. We are very excited to write our instructions on how to bake the Gingerbread men, next week!
Week ending 10th October 2025

This week in computing we looked at the artist, Kadinsky. We discussed how he uses different shapes within his work and had a go at creating our own Kadinsky themed pictures using the site, Sketchpad!
Week ending 3rd October 2025

This week, we have celebrated National Poetry week in Scotland class and have had a look at four different poems.

During the poem, 'Skipping Rope Spell', we created our own pictures of two children skipping, using a piece of string, which represented our skipping rope, and paint. These turned out fantastically and we celebrated our lovely work during Celebration Assembly on Friday.

Week ending 26th September 2025

What a busy week we have had in Scotland class!

In PE, we have been focusing on our 'Team building', where we have had to work together as a team to complete various challenges. The children did brilliant in remaining resilient and cheered on their friends!

In history, we have looked at timelines in chronological order. The children made timelines of their own lives so far, celebrating key events and comparing each other's lives.
Week ending 19th September 2025

This week, we had the privilege of being part of another music workshop. The children did excellent listening and took part in playing some of the musical instruments.

In our lessons, we have been introduced to "The Quiet Critters", which come out when we are quietly working!

Due to another fantastic week, we made some slime with Miss O'Hara in our golden time on Friday - this went down a treat!
Week ending 5th September 2025

What a wonderful, exciting and busy first week we have had in Scotland class!

The children have enjoyed exploring their new class as well as our new outdoor area.
We had our first ever Celebration Assembly this week; Miss O'Hara and I were so proud of how smart and sensible the children were during this.

On Friday, we had a Scottish-themed day, where we tasted Scottish foods, decorated flags, designed kilts and made our very own Highland Cows, inspired by the artist, Steven Brown.

Well done, Scotland! I am looking forward to another year with you all!
