Emmaville Primary School

Gateshead Reception

Welcome to the Gateshead Reception Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
This week in maths, the children have been investigating different capacities. We challenged their thinking by asking children to predict if certain sized beakers would hold more or less than another. The children have had a great time in our maths sessions this week.
In English, we have started retelling and innovating the story of the Three Little Pigs.
We had a lovely time in forest on Friday, practicing our balancing and enhancing our play using natural materials.

What a lovely week we have had. The children have all settled beautifully after their Christmas break, we are very proud of this. There has been a lot of imaginative, collaborative play. The weather has also been interesting, we have discovered some amazing tricks with the ice!!

In maths this week, the children have been investigating weight and comparing different objects to see which is lighter and which is heavier.

In English, we have started to focus on the story of the Three Little Pigs and the children have been fantastic storytellers, we have explored different versions of the stories to enhance our recall skills.

Gateshead class have been brilliant with their maths work, identifying 6, 7 and 8. Using different materials, the children have been able to create these numbers, spotting patterns and becoming more confident identifying these numbers.
The children have completed their work with the Three Little Pigs story, and I'm sure they will all be able to retell their own innovated story to you!
On Friday, we had a very soggy bird hunt, the children were amazing at siting quietly while we used the binoculars to spot as many birds as we could before the children all used their fine motor grips to create some bird feeders to help keep the birds fed in the cold, winter months.
