Week commencing 5th February
This week, Gateshead have been revisiting the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff in our English sessions, the children have been using the story to support their play during their provision time. The children have been using their story telling skills to retell the story and they have explored.
In maths, the children have been combining two groups to support their number recognition. They are getting so good at their subitising skills.
It has been National Storytelling week, during our topic session on Friday, the children used storytelling cubes to create their own stories. The children had some amazing ideas and loved sharing their tales with each other!
Week commencing 26th January
During our maths lessons this week, the children have been identifying pairs. They worked so well together to correctly pair the wellies, and they were able to find pairs throughout the week with ease.
In English, we discussed different traditional tales before we introduced our focus story, the Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children took part in some drama sessions, retelling the story before they described the Troll using some fantastic adjectives.
In our Friday topic, we have been learning all about our key worker animals. We learnt lots of new facts about owls and squirrels before we created our own little animals.
This week, we have noticed some amazing phonics progress too, we are all so proud of how hard you are all working, Gateshead :-)
Week commencing 19th January
This week in maths, the children have been investigating different capacities. We challenged their thinking by asking children to predict if certain sized beakers would hold more or less than another. The children have had a great time in our maths sessions this week.
In English, we have started retelling and innovating the story of the Three Little Pigs.
We had a lovely time in forest on Friday, practicing our balancing and enhancing our play using natural materials.
Week commencing 12th January
Gateshead class have been brilliant with their maths work, identifying 6, 7 and 8. Using different materials, the children have been able to create these numbers, spotting patterns and becoming more confident identifying these numbers.
The children have completed their work with the Three Little Pigs story, and I'm sure they will all be able to retell their own innovated story to you!
On Friday, we had a very soggy bird hunt, the children were amazing at siting quietly while we used the binoculars to spot as many birds as we could before the children all used their fine motor grips to create some bird feeders to help keep the birds fed in the cold, winter months.
Week commencing 5th January 2026
What a lovely week we have had. The children have all settled beautifully after their Christmas break, we are very proud of this. There has been a lot of imaginative, collaborative play. The weather has also been interesting, we have discovered some amazing tricks with the ice!!
In maths this week, the children have been investigating weight and comparing different objects to see which is lighter and which is heavier.
In English, we have started to focus on the story of the Three Little Pigs and the children have been fantastic storytellers, we have explored different versions of the stories to enhance our recall skills.
