Week beginning 20th October 2025
Wow - I can't believe our first half term is over! Time really does fly when you're having fun! This week I would really like to celebrate our recent PE unit.  We have been working on our fundamental movement skills - these are like building blocks of all the fun things our body can do such as running, jumping, hopping and balancing.  The children have worked really hard throughout our unit showing great determination, tactics and collaboration.  Today we finished our unit off with some French skipping - the children absolutely blew myself and Mrs Wallace away with their fantastic skills.  A great end to our half term Northern Ireland.

Have a super half term break and we will see you in November - have fun!

This week in geography we have enjoyed learning all about Paris.  We learnt that it is the capital city of France, the river running through it is called the Seine and we also looked closely at the vast array of landmarks.  We then explored Paris by looking at Google Earth and spotting the human and physical features.  Finally, we created our own maps of Paris - even creating our own key! A great lesson with some incredible maps produced - well done Northern Ireland class!

Wow - another week over already! It has been a very busy week, it is amazing to see how far the children have progressed in such a short space of time.  This week I'd love to celebrate our maths work. We are getting so whizzy with our ten times tables - I am blown away!  The children enjoy lots of fun times tables games and songs - one of their favourites is the magician one (see attached link if you'd like to have a go at home).
I can't wait to meet you all at parents evening next week and celebrate all the wonderful things your children have been up to, have a super weekend everyone.

What a brilliant week we have had in Northern Ireland class.  Over the past few weeks in our music lessons we have been looking at the pitch of different instruments.  We have looked at a range of different instruments and discussed whether they had a high or low sound.  This week we experimented with our own instruments.  Although it was a very noisy session the children were great at identifying low and high pitched sounds.
We have also enjoyed a wonderful Poetry Week in English.  Today in assembly, the children performed one of our favourite poems from the week!

    Week beginning 22nd September 2025
This week we have really enjoyed taking part in our first science investigation.  Our topic for this half term is materials and last week our task was to design a durable costume for Traction Man while thinking about the properties of different materials.  We designed our costumes and made a prediction about which material we felt would be best.  This week we tested out a range of materials to investigate their durability.  We had a brilliant afternoon and most of us had correctly predicted a very suitable material - well done you super scientists!

What a brilliant morning we had on Wednesday at our music workshop.  The theme was 'Pirates' and we had so much fun listening to and joining in with many 'Under the Sea' songs, learning some musical vocabulary including 'pulse' and some of us even had a try at playing some instruments with the band! An amazing morning full of fun!

Another brilliant week in Northern Ireland class.  The children are settling into routines really well and are working so hard across all curriculum areas.  This week I would love to celebrate our fantastic guided reading sessions.  We have been sharing a book called 'Pip and Egg' by Alex Latimer.  We have enjoyed sharing the story, using comparative language to compare characters from the story and predicting what might happen at different points of the story.  A great week Northern Ireland - I can't wait for our next guided reading week with you all!

Welcome to our year 2 Northern Ireland class page.  We have had a fantastic start to our new school year.  The children have blown us all away this week with their hard work and wonderful attitude.  Some of our highlights from the week included our parachute games, superhero English work and our very detailed art work.  We can't wait to see what our new year brings.  Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you back on Monday for lots more fun and learning!
