Emmaville Primary School

England Year 1

Welcome to the England Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Week Beginning 23rd June 2025

Our children had a fantastic time on their trip to Belsay Hall on Thursday.

With endless enthusiasm and boundless energy, they explored, talked about the plants, spotted wildlife and identified deciduous and evergreen trees- on top of this, their map following skills were second to none! We were even able to enjoy our lunches in the sunshine as the weather behaved itself for us.

The children were a credit to the school with their excellent behaviour and it was lovely to see them enjoying their outdoor learning experiences – Well done everyone!

Week beginning 16th June

This half term England have been studying animals in our Science topic 'Animals including Humans'. This week, we learned about the six 'families' of animals and their main characteristics. These families are: mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds. The children were very interested to learn that some types of animals like to live on the land and in the sea, when other animals can only live happily on one. After learning about more about the six animal families, the class were challenged to work in table groups to categorise lots of different animals into their correct family.
Week beginning 9th June

This week England were so excited to welcome their grown ups into school to celebrate Sports Day! The children showed amazing sportsmanship, resilience and enthusiasm and supported each other with cheers and words of encouragement throughout. Challenge stations included an egg and spoon race, long and short distance sprints and an obstacle relay course.

Amazing effort England!
Week Beginning 12th May 2025

This week England Class enjoyed taking part in the Annual School Rainbow Run. The children all joined in enthusiastically, running the course and cheering for other classes too - amazing effort England!
Week beginning 6th May 2025

This week England celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day along with the rest of Emmaville Primary and the whole country! On Thursday, the children came to school wearing red, white and blue for a day of fun-filled activities. This included designing their own medals, creating Union Jack bunting and decorating a biscuit.

Week beginning 28th April

Year 1 have had a great first week back, and have been making the most of the lovely warm weather. The children have enjoyed outdoor Athletics lessons on the field in PE, and also having a rest between learning in the sunshine. On Wednesday, both classes were thrilled to have an outdoor story time with Mr Saddington, sharing 'Jack and the Beanstalk' as they sat in the shade.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week!
Week beginning 30th June 2025

This week in England class we have been continuing our learning about Judaism. To start the lesson, the class absolutely blew me away with the knowledge they had remembered from our lessons in May about Shabbat. We then learned about Yom Kippur, a Jewish holy day. After learning about how this day is a chance for Jewish people to apologise for anything they have done and ways to show kindness instead, the children thought about acts of kindness they show in their own lives. They created a booklet celebrating all the ways they are kind at school and at home, and there were so many fantastic responses, including:

'I help mummy and daddy put the bins out'

'I look after my friends if they feel sad'

'I always say please and thank you'

'I help my little sister with her reading'

Great work England!
