Week beginning 7th July 2025
We have had a very busy week in year 2 - the children have worked their absolute socks off all week! We have enjoyed a lovely enrichment week focusing on geography. Some of our favourite activities were:
"I enjoyed doing our walkable survey on Crawcrook Main Street" Oliver B
"We looked at Bamburgh Castle and then sketched and coloured it" Leo
"In our school grounds we went on a habitat hunt and found lots of microhabitats" Milo
"One of our activities was to think about how far food travels - we sorted foods that are grown in the UK and foods that are grown in other parts of the world" Hollie
Week beginning 30th July 2025
Another superb week in Northern Ireland. This week I would love to celebrate our fantastic letter writing in English. We watched a clip called 'Winston the Wish Maker' which was about a character who made peoples wishes come true. We then imagined we were a character from the story and wrote a letter of thanks to Winston for granting our wishes. I was really impressed with everything the children had remembered about what we need to include in our letter writing. Well done everyone!
Week beginning 23rd June 2025
Another fabulous week in year 2! This week we had a brilliant History lesson where we learnt all about Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragettes. The children enjoyed looking at what a suffragette is and what the they did for us and how this impacted the world. We explored what the suffragette movement was and discovered how the suffragettes won women the right to vote. To finish off our learning we had lots of fun looking inside our Suffragettes artefact box and enjoyed exploring and using lots of the resources!
Week beginning 16th June 2025
This week we enjoyed a visit from the Primary Enterprise Team. We took part in a full day workshop where we identified different families and looked at needs and wants. We then looked at the importance of budgeting and savings and where to keep money safe. The children really enjoyed the session and our three visitors commented on how engaged the children were and their super manners throughout the day. Well done Northern Ireland class - you were fantastic representatives for our school.
Week beginning 9th June 2025
What a brilliant Sports Afternoon we had on Wednesday! The children enjoyed a fun packed carousel of races and events including the sprint, middle distance run, howler throw, long jump, obstacle course and the egg and spoon race. All of the children tried their very best and were absolutely amazing throughout the afternoon. Thanks to you all for coming to support your absolute superstars and thank you to our PE Team for organising a wonderful event!
Week beginning 2nd June 2025
Welcome back to our final term of the year! What a fantastic start to the term we had with two brilliant visits.
On Monday, we visited the Central Mosque in Newcastle. The children had an amazing visit - asking and answering brilliant questions and remembering so much from our RE lessons. Well done everyone!
On Wednesday, we visited the Angel of the North and the Baltic and enjoyed a trip over the Millennium Bridge. Again, the children recalled so much of our geography work from our local area. During both trips the children were amazing; showing respect and consideration whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves.
A great first week back!
Week beginning 19th May 2025
Although it has been a very short half term, we have still managed to squeeze so much in! For this half term our DT focus has been sewing. This has been a very tricky skill to master but the children have shown great determination and perseverance to create some wonderful felt pouches. We are almost finished and will be bringing them home after the half term holiday - I'm sure you will be very impressed with our sewing skills!
Have a lovely half term holiday and we'll see you back at school on 2nd June for our final half term together.
Week beginning 12th May 2025
A fab end to a wonderful week. We all had an amazing time at the Rainbow Run today and our outfits were brilliant - so bright and colourful. Our daily mile is obviously paying off as the children did a super job of pacing themselves and running the whole distance! You superstars!
Week beginning 5th May 2025
Wow - what a fab week! I would really love to celebrate all of our amazing scientists this week. During our Science lessons for this half term we have been learning all about electricity. We than set work to building our own circuits this week. The children were given two wires, a battery pack and a lightbulb. They then worked with their group to try and build a circuit to make the bulb light up. I was amazed at how quickly the children were able to build their circuit successfully. They were thoroughly delighted with their work and were very enthusiastic throughout our lesson.
Great work everyone!
Week beginning 28th April 2025
Welcome back and here we are into our Summer term already. Time really does fly when you're having fun! It sounds like everyone had a super break over the Easter holidays.
We have so much to celebrate this week but I'd really like to share our fantastic English work from our first week back. We have started a new text called The Paper Bag Princess. The children have worked hard to remember the story using a story map and actions. We have also looked at how we use apostrophes for possession. In one of our lessons, the children described characters from the story using apostrophes and I was totally blown away! Each and every one of them remembered how to use apostrophes correctly and also thought of super adjectives to add description. Please enjoy reading a few examples of our work below.
Well done Northern Ireland - an amazing first week back!
