Africa Year 4

Welcome to the Africa Year 4 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Friday 3rd October

We have had a lovely week in English this week focusing on poetry for National Poetry Week. The children have really enjoyed playing with words and creating their own poems. We looked at different poetic devices such as rhythm, rhyme and alliteration. We also created poems focusing on the senses and what we could hear within our classroom. The children have written some fantastic poems and I am so proud of their creativity.

We have worked really hard over these first few weeks consolidating our learning of column addition and subtraction. The children have got into great habits of setting out the column method using our place value headings to help us make sure we always put digits in the correct columns. We used dienes, place value counters and whiteboards to help us.

We had such a great time on Wednesday this week when the music workshop came in to see us. The theme this term was 'movie music' so we got to play and sing along to lots of iconic songs from films! They included; James Bond, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and Sing!
Friday 12th September

We have had another busy week in Africa class this week! In DT, we began learning about series and parallel circuits, which connects nicely to our Science topic on Electricity this half term. Yesterday, we were able to make our own circuits using wires, batteries and bulbs. Everyone managed to create a working circuit which was brilliant and the children had a lot of fun!

Welcome Back!

Wow what an amazing start to the year we have had in Africa class! We have had such a lovely time getting to know each other and working out how we want our classroom to run over the next year. We spent some time thinking about attitudes that help us learn and chose two different attitudes that we wanted to work on over the next year. We also did some team building exercises included seeing who could build the most effective bridge using paper and tape! It was challenging but the children worked brilliantly together.
