Scotland Year 1

Welcome to the Scotland Year 1 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Week ending 26th June 2026

Although it has been a very sunny week in Scotland class, this has not stopped us from having a fun-filled week. We have had ice lollies, water fun and lots of calming and mindfulness activities.

Due to our hard work and resilience, we have now reached the top of our marble jar. Well done, Scotland, you are all ready for Year 2!
Week ending 19th June 2026

Chop chop chop.. In DT this week, we have been practising our cutting skills to cut different fruits. We firstly began our lesson in recapping where fruit and vegetables grow. Then, we split into groups and had a go at cutting our fruit. We were very sensible during the activity and even got to try some of the food!

In science, we learnt about evergreen and deciduous trees. We then went on a tree hunt around the school grounds with our partners and tried to identify different trees. I was particularly impressed with how knowledgeable the children were in describing different trees. Some used adjectives such as - waxy, thin, narrow and soft.

Another fabulous week, Scotland class. You are all so ready for year 2!
Week ending 12th June 2026

Another busy week here in Scotland class!

This week, we had Sports day, where we tried our very best in front of our grown-ups! We were so impressed with the children's behaviour and their resilience when taking part in the activities. The children showed great team skills and chanted for their friends, which was great to hear.

Well done, Scotland class!
Week ending 5th June 2026

Welcome back, Scotland class!

We have had the best first week back to our last half-term together!
On Wednesday, we visited Auckland Park. The children blew all of the grown-ups socks off with their fantastic listening ears and for being so sensible when being out of school - they represented their school very well.

We completed a science activity, where we first looked at some different plants and flowers in the lovely gardens, before planting our very own sunflower seeds to keep in school and take care of!
We then went to St Cuthbert's church at Auckland Park and learned about the history of Bishops. Some of the children took part in a story-telling activity, where they had to hold props to help us retell a story. We ended our visit with a lovely craft activity, where we made our own stained glass windows.

Well done Scotland class!
Week ending 21st May 2026

In geography this week, we have been looking at Sydney in Australia. We had a look at the site, Tripadvisor, and discussed how this site can be great for recommending places for tourists.
We looked at particular sites - Bondi beach, Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Three Sisters. We then designed our own tourist attraction poster recommending these lovely places. I was extremely impressed with how the children adopted their knowledge from previous lessons to create their own posters, including both human and physical features of these places.

Well done Scotland class, have a lovely half-term break!

Week ending 15th May 2026

This week we had the opportunity of visiting Newcastle Cathedral. We first began our day with creating our own Bishop - the children were excellent in naming the different parts of clothing a Bishop needs to wear!

Then, we went on a small tour around the Cathedral and learned about how babies are baptised. Some of the children got involved in acting out the different parts of the baptism.

Well done Scotland class for another fantastic week.
Week ending 8th May 2026

In art this week, we have been learning all about repetitive patterns. We used our knowledge to create a lovely rainbow. Here is how they turned out!
Week ending 1st May 2025

In science this week, we have learned about our five senses. We focused on our hearing and went on a 10 minute walk around school to test our hearing! The children commented on how they heard many noises - children, chairs, the wind etc. We then finished our lesson off with a game of bingo, where we had to listen to noises and cross them off on our bingo sheet.
Week ending 24th April 2026

Welcome back, Scotland class!

A fantastic start to the term this week! We were very lucky to go to the library to take part in a mini scavenger hunt. We first read a story, then, we collected all the items related to the story and put them onto our main character.

We then had a little look at the books in the library before coming back to school.
