England Year 1

Week beginning 14th September 2026

This week I would love to celebrate our English work. We have been learning the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' and taking part in a wide range of activities around the classroom. The children have been adding actions to the story to help them remember key parts and then used stick puppets to act out the story. In our writing tasks, we have been thinking about the characters the Gingerbread Man met. The children wrote some lovely lists of the main characters - using their Fred Fingers to spell out the words. Amazing job everyone!

Week beginning 7th September 2026

What a brilliant first PE lesson we had this week. For our first few lessons we will be working on our Team Building skills. We will be working with a partner to develop our communication, problem solving and teamwork skills while moving our bodies. The children did a super job this week and loved their lesson - a big well done to you all Team England!

Week beginning 1st September 2026

Welcome to the year 1 England class page. What a fantastic first week we have had. The children have adapted really well to their new routines and settled straight into life in year 1. This week we have been familiarising ourselves with our new environment including our classroom, key stage 1 garden, the big yard and our new phonics classrooms. The children also took part in their very first school assembly on Friday - I was so proud with how well they listened and joined in with our singing. We have also been busy learning all about England (our class name). We looked at an English artist, made crowns like King Charles III and looked at some landmarks on Google Earth. Next week the children will be introduced to some new lessons so look out for these in next weeks news.

Well done for a brilliant first week England - I think we are going to have an amazing year together :0)
