Friday 2nd October
We have had another lovely week here in South America. On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to visit SafetyWorks! which is an interactive safety education centre in Newcastle, providing realistic, hands-on safety training for schools, youth groups, and community organisations. Through immersive, true-to-life scenarios, they teach young people how to stay safe, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies in everyday situations. We had a great afternoon and learnt so much from the staff and training we had. I'm sure the children will tell you all about what they have learnt including how to stay safe around dogs, water safety and all about the green cross code.
I also had to share some of the success stories from our 24 hour kindness challenge that I set the children as part of our Harvest learning. I would love to hear if you guys get up to anymore kindness- spreading over the weekend.
Also, a huge well done done to our elected school councillors - Niamh and Oliver, as well as our house captains and vice captains, Molly, Amelie, Emelie and Luke!

Friday 25th September
We had another visit from the Music Workshop team this week, and we knew that everything was gonna be all right, because the theme was reggae. We learnt about Jamaica and the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers, as well as other artists like the British group Bad Manners. It was great singing and playing along to classics like Three Little Birds and Buffalo Soldier - lots of us got to join in with the rhythms on drums, claves, tambourines and even tuned hand bells. As ever, the morning was a lot of fun.
Friday 11th September
Another wonderful week here in South America! On Tuesday, we began our science topic for this half term, where we will be learning all about light. We learnt how fast light travels, and that's the reason we can see lightning before we hear thunder. We also conducted an experiment to prove that light only travels in straight lines called 'rays'. I know the children would love to tell you all about what we did and how we were able to show this using items from the classroom. We really enjoyed this learning, and are looking forward to more experiments to come over the next few weeks.

Friday 4th September
Wow! What a fabulous first week we have had here in South America. I have loved spending some time getting to know all of the children, and they have blown me away with how kind, respectful and lovely they are. We have also spent some time learning more about our class continent: South America. We learnt all about the geography of the continent, as well as looking at a famous Brazilian artist -Romero Britto - and recreating his unique style. We now know some really cool facts about South America, which I know the children would love to share with you.
