Primary Enterprise Workshop

Year 4 had a fantastic day yesterday taking part in a ‘Clown Mobile’ workshop! In groups, the children each had a role of either: general manager, sales executive, quality controller, buyer, accountant or production worker. They had to work together as a business with their product being a clown mobile. Not only did they have to manage the workload and each other, the accountant also had the responsibility of managing their money! They had products to buy and taxes and wages to pay, all while trying to make a profit!

Once the mobiles were complete, the sales executive then had to use their negotiation skills to try and sell their product to potential suppliers for the maximum price. They were fantastic and would not take less than what they deserved!

I was so impressed by their teamwork and negotiation skills, they were absolutely fantastic and produced really good clown mobiles! Well done Asia!

Design and Technology

Egyptian Collar

During this half-term in Design and Technology, we are going to be making an Egyptian collar which represents them. The children will research, design, plan and then make their collar.

To help with this, we focused on stitching today and the children practiced a running stitch and a cross stitch. They did amazingly and I was blown away by their attention to detail! Well done Asia :)

Year 4 Assembly

The children have worked so hard over the past few weeks, practicing their lines and dance moves for the assembly today, making sure that it was the best it could be! I am so proud of them, as I am sure you all are too! They did a fantastic job and it was lovely to look back on some of the things that we have done over the past year :)

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! :)

I hope you all have a lovey half-term holiday and I look forward to hearing everything that you got up to when we get back!

Happy half-term! :)

Science Tooth Decay Experiment

In Science this half term, we have been learning all about Animals including humans. As part of this unit, we have been learning about teeth. This has included learning about the different types of teeth and their functions and also comparing the teeth of different animals.

To help us to understand teeth even more, we carried out an experiment on ‘Tooth Decay’. We discussed the different type of experiments/ enquiries that can be carried out; practical enquiries, comparative tests and fair tests. The children in groups, then decided which one they wanted to focus on. The aim of the experiment was to ask the question ‘Which liquid would cause the most decay to teeth?’.

In order to answer this question, the children had to choose which liquid/s (vinegar, coke, orange juice etc.) they wanted to use, place an egg into the liquid and then observe what will happen over time.

Why don’t you ask your children what they have observed so far?

Happy weekend! :) Mrs Graham.

Vindolanda Trip

The children have had a fantastic week this week! They and all of the adults involved, had a great time at Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. The children were really engaged and thoroughly enjoyed it! They were all extremely sensible and behaved fantastically, so much so that the whole class were awarded Star of the Week! Well done Asia!! :)

Why don't you ask your children to tell you some facts that they have learnt about Romans? They did explore a Roman classroom after all and watched a film all about the Romans whilst at the museum!

Happy weekend! Mrs Graham :)

Art- Photography

This half-term in Art, we are exploring photography. We started the term by analyzing and discussing photos taken by one of our own, the very talented Mr Saddington.

The children then took ipads outside (on a beautifully sunny day!) and had fun capturing different moments in nature. They loved doing this and really took the time to think about angles and lighting and what it was that they wanted to capture.

Take a look at some of the beautiful photos that they took below :) Mrs Graham.

Cricket Engagement Day

On Monday, Year 4 and 5 were very lucky to receive a visit from Durham Cricket Club.

We first attended a talk with them which highlighted why Cricket is such an amazing sport to play.  We then took part in a cricket workshop and did lots of different activities including throwing, balling, batting and catching.

The children thoroughly enjoyed this! A lot of them seemed very keen to take up cricket in the future, which is fantastic!

Welcome back!

It has been lovely to catch up with the children this week and listen to all of the fun things that they got up to over the Easter holidays! :)

I am sure that we are all going to have another fantastic term!

PE- Tennis

This week in PE, the children have been introduced to Tennis. The first lesson was focused on developing racket and ball control. By starting with this skill, it enables the children to build on and improve on their ball control which will then help them when it comes to playing a game of Tennis later on in the term.

This week, the children were each given a hoop, a ball and a tennis racket. They were tasked with standing in the hoop and challenged to carrying out a range of ball and racket skills, all whilst remaining inside of the hoop!

The children really enjoyed this lesson and I am looking forward to continuing with our Tennis lessons!
