Week beginning 19th December 2022
Wow - what an amazing first term we have had! This week has been full of festive fun! It has been such a joy to get to know each and every one of the children in our class - we are so proud of how far they have come already this academic year. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy 2023. Enjoy some lovely quality family time together and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Week beginning 12th December 2022
This week was our enrichment week where we have been looking at festivals. We thought about our own Christmas traditions then looked at traditions from Germany. We learnt lots about how people in Germany celebrate Christmas, how to say ‘Merry Christmas’ in German, made a traditional German holly wreath and enjoyed some German Christmas treats for snack. We also learnt all about Advent and made our own Christingle to take home. It has been a lovely week and we can’t wait for more Christmas fun in our final week of the year.
Week beginning 5th December 2022
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The festive season is in full swing in school with so much Christmas fun happening. There is a real buzz of excitement in the air as we prepare for our Christmas build up. There is so much coming up including Christmas lunch, festive jumper day, Christmas parties and a Stick Man performance from the wonderful Seven Stories. This week we were particularly excited to have our grown ups in school for a Stay and Play session. We enjoyed making lots of Christmas crafts, snuggling up with a festive story and performing some of our Christmas songs. It was so good to welcome our families into the classroom and have lots of fun with us! I can't wait for lots more festive fun next week - have a lovely weekend in the snow.
Week beginning 28th November 2022
On Thursday we all had a lovely morning at the local library. Kyle read us two Christmas stories, we sang some Christmas songs, explored the library by searching for hidden elves and posed at the selfie station for a festive photograph. The children were an absolute credit to Emmaville; they all used their best listening ears and were fabulous at following instructions. Thank you so much to all of our lovely helpers who came to help us - we hope you enjoyed your morning with the wonderful Gateshead Class. A lovely start to out festive celebrations!
Week beginning 21st November 2022
It was lovely to catch up with you all during our Parents Evening chat this week. I love to share all of the brilliant achievements of the children and discuss their progress so far in Reception.
This week I would really like to share some of the PSHE work we have been completing in class. Our topic for this term is 'Celebrating Differences' and this week we listened to the story ‘Super Duper You!’ We talked about how everyone is different and unique. We discussed our differences and similarities, and all agreed it was good that we’re all not exactly the same. The staff then shared some photographs of their own family. We discussed families and how they are all different, but how they all share the most important thing – love. We will continue exploring diversity throughout this half term.
Week beginning 14th November 2022
On Friday we enjoyed a fab Children in Need Day full of spots, cakes, dancing and games. Thank you so much for all of your kind donations to our cake sale and a big thank you to Miss Kenyon and the School Council for organising such a fun filled day. We can't wait to find out how much money we have raised. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Week beginning 7th November 2022
This week in maths we have been looking at the composition of 5. This involves understanding that five can be made up from two or more smaller numbers, for example, 3 and 2, 4 and 1. This then really helps us when we are recalling our number bonds to 5. We used a range of manipulatives including five frames and double-sided counters to help us explore and understand this concept. The children are really enjoying their maths work and are great at demonstrating super problem solving skills - well done everyone!
Week beginning 31st October 2022
Welcome back everyone - it sounds like you all had a super half term! This week we started our new Talk for Writing unit in our English sessions. We have introduced the children to our model text - The Little Green Dinosaur and spent the week orally retelling it. We also added dinosaur props to the classroom provision so the children could deepen their understanding of the story through the use of drama and role play. We will continue with our story for another two weeks where we will begin to innovate the story by changing the characters and adding new vocabulary. I bet the children will all be dinosaur experts very soon!
Have a wonderful Bonfire Night this weekend everyone!
Week beginning 17th October 2022
Wow - I can't believe our first half term is over already! The children have a had a brilliant first term and have settled into the routine of school amazingly well. There are so many wonderful things to celebrate from this week, but I would really like to highlight our fabulous maths work. This week in maths we have been looking at shape - in particular triangles and circles. We have looked at their properties, sorted them, spotted them in the environment and used them to make some Kadinsky inspired art.
Well done Gateshead for a wonderful first half term - have a lovely holiday and we'll see you back at school on the 31st of October ready for lots more learning and some festive fun!
Week beginning 10th October 2022
As the half term draws to a close, I would really like to congratulate all of the children on their superb start to their phonics sessions. They have all worked their socks off, working hard to learn their sounds and make words on their magnetic boards using these sounds. I always find it such a privilege to embark on the children's reading journey with them - I love to see the delight in their faces when they start to read words. I know they have been working hard at home too so a big thank you to all of the adults at home who are supporting their children with this - it really does make a huge difference!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday for our final week of the half term - we are in for lots of spooky fun next week, I can't wait!
Week beginning 3rd October 2022
This week our English focus was poetry as part of National Poetry Day. We have spent the week learning the poem 'A Basket of Apples'. The children have blown us away with their recital - they worked so hard to remember all of the words and actions! I hope you enjoy watching the clip which is attached.
Well done Gateshead - I am so very proud of you all.
Week beginning 26th September 2022
Another superb week in Gateshead class. This week we celebrated 'European Language Day'. Each day we looked at our display poster and highlighted the different flags and countries. We then looked at each speech bubble taking note of how to say ‘hello’ in different languages. Every morning, during registration, we used a different language to greet each other. The children have remembered so many ways to say hello - you superstars!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Week beginning 19th September 2022
Another wonderful week in Gateshead class where we have been very busy with lots of new jobs. We have completed some phonics, maths and English jobs and we have also started our first PE unit. This term in PE we will be going on a journey to the jungle. This will help us to develop our fundamental movement skills, such as, running, jumping, balancing, hopping, slithering and crawling. We had our first two sessions this week and the children showed great listening skills and understanding when following the instructions. We also discussed the importance of warming up and cooling down our bodies before and after each session, which we will recap each lesson.
You have all worked your socks off this week so have a lovely weekend - well done Team Gateshead!
Week beginning 12th September 2022
A huge welcome to Gateshead Class page. It has been a wonderful first week in our new class - the children have all settled in brilliantly. It is so lovely to see so many beaming smiles enter our classroom every morning. This week we celebrated 'International Dot Day'. We listened to the story of 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds - this story focusses on boosting courage to develop creative potential. We then created lots of dots for our class display using many different art techniques, such as, collage, paint and pastels. Our classroom display looks bright and vibrant and has added a great splash of colour to the classroom.
I think we're in for a fabulous year Gateshead - have a lovely weekend!
